Cyberspace, Sovereignty, and Human Rights: How the Digital Age Reshaped State Power

The internet started as a military failsafe. It's now a global public space, and the old rules of state power haven't kept up. This talk traces three fault lines. First, sovereignty: borderless networks let individuals, corporations, and rival states contest control that used to belong to governments alone. Second, human rights: the same connectivity that fueled movements like the Arab Spring also enabled mass surveillance, from the NSA's PRISM program to China's profiling in Xinjiang. Third, security: cyberweapons like Stuxnet and Russia's operations in Ukraine show conflict moving into a domain with almost no binding international law. Together, these threads raise one central question: can global governance catch up to a world that no longer respects borders?
