Member presentation: Cybersecurity

Andrew Bell, ethiSEC

Cybersecurity has become a frequent topic of discussion as more organisations and people fall victim to cyber-attacks.

Your customers look to you and your expert knowledge to help guide their choices. Unfortunately informing yourself about security can be difficult.

Most of the available information, whether it be books, news stories, expert articles or presentations, comes from product vendors and service providers. It is marketing material that is often biased towards particular technology and products.

As SMBiT members and security specialists, we'd like to share some of our knowledge and experiences garnered over 20 years of security consulting activities. We plan a number of sessions covering different aspects as security is a complex topic.

The goal of the first session is to provide a high-level overview of security and set the stage for future presentations.

The topics covered include:

  • What is Security?
  • What does it mean to me?
  • Many voices, many messages, who can I believe?
  • What are the risks?
  • To my business?
  • To my customers businesses?
  • Foundation security terms and concepts
  • Security architecture
  • Security frameworks
  • Security assessment & testing
  • What are the best Security products?

Gimme gimme some luvin…

Lena Small

As IT Geeks, we totally underestimate the importance of looking after ourselves. We really suck at looking after ourselves and put our clients first way too often. Our backs creak, our necks hurt, we get constant headaches from bad posture and hours on end staring at the monitors. Tonights session involves Lena Small – long time friend of the SMB IT Professionals Group as she brings her 15+ years of experience as a health professional to bear on our work environments. Lena’s going to have an open and frank discussion with us about what we can do to relieve pains we feel every day in our limbs. She’s going to show us how to do some basic exercises that will help when we’re under pressure, and hopefully bring some life back into our bones. This will be an interactive session for sure, and hopefully a lot of fun.

Lena (pronounced Lay-na) Small is the founder of Lena’s Massage. She’s passionate about helping people heal using natural methods such as Massage Therapy. She’s been working as a professional massage therapist for over 16 years and loves seeing people relax and enjoy a good massage. She’s experienced in a range of massage techniques and always offers professional and personal approach to your massage needs. Lena’s office is in Norwest Business Park and she see’s a lot of office workers and IT geeks and knows too well the challenges they face in daily work life. Lena is qualified as a Diploma of Remedial Massage both here in Australia and also in the USA. Lena also has a bachelors degree in culinary, which means she understands the food side of our lives quite well too.
